ZOO
RECORDS
Independent Liverpool-based label: Zoo Records was active
during 1978-82. And appears to have only released nine singles during the
five years of its existence, but it proved to be a fertile breeding-ground for
talent: two of its acts, The Teardrop Explodes and Echo & The Bunnymen, went
on to enjoy worldwide success with other, major, labels, and members of a third,
Big In Japan, went on to achieve fame with other bands. A fourth
act, Lori & The Chameleons, also charted, touching the No.70 spot in 1979
when their 'Touch' single (CAGE-006) was licensed to Sire Records and reissued
(as SIR-4025). The label design seems to have varied from single to
single, so the example shown shouldn't be taken as the norm.
