WELLS
RECORDS
Wells Records was a DIY label. And one of those cases where a
label didn't actually have a name as such and for the sake of identification
I've had to give it one. The catalogue number of a one-off single by Mick
Doo Wop & Jimmy Rhythms coupling 'Wells Hotel' and 'It's Only A Matter Of
Time', WE-1, reflected the 'A' side title and suggested that 'Wells' was as good
a name as any, so I've gone with it. The record came out in 1979; 'Jimmy
Rhythms' was Jimmy Litherland of Colisseum. The 'A' side is more or less a
musical recommendation for the Wells Hotel, and it mentions several of the staff
by name; the 'B' is laid-lack, bluesy and vaguely reminiscent Of J.J.
Cale. The style of the matrix number on the run-off suggests that pressing
was by Orlake. Distributed By Wells Records. Thanks to Robert Lyons
For The Info.
