THE MAN
RECORDS
Independent label: The Man Records was a Cornish custom
recording from 1978. The Man's sole release was a double 'A' sided single
by Jethro - described as 'Cornwall's own king of comedy' by the sleeve notes -
and Country & Western group The Misty Dream Band. Jethro provided the
vocals for 'The 8th Of May', while the Misty Dreamers recorded the other side,
'Take Me Back Across The Tamar', on their own. The songs were recorded at
Roche Studios, in Cornwall, and the catalogue number was MDJ-001. A
scratched-out matrix number on the run-off reads 'RR-0012', so perhaps the
single was originally intended for release on some other label. Roche had
a label of their own with numbering in an RR series, but the only records I've
been able to trace on it were numbered in the RR-5000s. Pressing was by RCA.
