THE DUKE
RECORDS
The
Duke Records was a DIY label. It was owned by the grandly-named
Wellington International Record Promotions, which was from the Northampton
area. It issued at least one single, a Rockabilly effort by Johnny &
The Jailbirds, 'Shang A-Lang A-Ding Dong' b/w 'Slick Chick' (WIRP-001); the year
of issue was 1979. In that same year the band signed to Charly Records,
for whom they recorded an album, 'Out On Bail'. The label itself was red
with black printing, and it had a cartoon of the Duke of Wellington at the top.
Distributed By The Duke Records. Johnny and the Jailbirds were formed at the end
of 1973 when I moved from Charlton South East London to Wellingborough,
Northamptonshire. Johnny And The Jailbirds Are - Johnny Red (Vocals/Rhtyhm
Guitar/Harmonica) - Billy Sloane (Drums) - Garry Tyrrell Lynch (Double Bass)
