ST. PANCRAS
RECORDS
St. Pancras Records was a DIY label from the Punk
years. St. Pancras's claim to fame is that it introduced Scritti Politti to
the world, via the single 'Skank Bloc Bologna' (SCRIT-1; 11/78). First
pressing of 2500 copies, per interior of sleeve, followed by a further pressing
of 5000.The label of that record was white, and the credits were hand-stamped on
to it. It was pressed By Pye Records (Sales) Ltd. And recorded at
Spaceward Studios and mastered At Pye Studios. An EP called 'Work In Progress'
(SCRIT-2 / RT-34; 11/79) followed, in co-operation with Rough Trade. The
band's subsequent records were on Rough Trade and later Virgin. Distributed
By Rough Trade Records. Scritti Politti are a British band, originally
formed in 1977 in Leeds, Yorkshire, by Cardiff-born singer-songwriter Green
Gartside. He is the only member of the band to have remained throughout the
group's history. Beginning as a Leftist post-punk group led by art school
student Gartside, Scritti Politti transitioned into a mainstream pop music
project in the early to mid-1980s, enjoying significant success in the record
charts in the UK and the US. Thanks to Robert Lyons For The
