ST. MARY MAGDALEN
RECORDS
St. Mary Magdalen Records was a DIY
label. And one of those cases where there's no label name on a disc and I've had
to give it one for the purposes of listing it. I haven't been able to pin
this record down to the '70s but I'm quietly confident that it is. A 'CRS'
in the run-off reportedly indicates that the custom recording concern through
which it was made was the County Recording Service, which ran from 1962 to 1981;
and private pressings in stereo are more likely to be post-'60s than not.
Be that as it may. The Christmas EP pictured above, featuring organ solos
by Vincent Packford and unaccompanied singing by the choir of St. Mary Magdalen,
Oxford, appears to be a one-off; there's no sign of any related MMVP-000s.
The labels have been pasted over what appears to be a white blank. In
addition to the tracks shown the EP featured versions of 'Infant Holy', 'A
Little Child', 'Jesu, Meine Freude', and an original carol by Packford, 'I Sing
Of A Mayden'. If anybody can pin a date to this one I'd be interested to
hear from them. Thanks to Robert Lyons For The Info.
