QUALITON
RECORDS
The mainly Welsh-languange Qualiton label was owned by
Cwaliton Records (Wales), from Pontardawe, near Swansea. Records on the Qualiton
label appeared from 1958 to the early '70s, latterly (from 1969?) as part of the
Decca family. Most of its products were LPs, but it also put out a
good number of 7" records. The vast majority of its 7" products date
from the '50s and '60s, but at least one was released in the '70s Singles were
numbered in the WSP-5000s, while EPs came in a variety of series: BEP-8000,
QEP-4000, and (S)QEPD-100. Peculiarly, the company seems to have
dedicated two labels to material licensed from Europe: Qualiton
International looks to have shared the main BEP-8000 catalogue series,
while Qualiton Off Beat singles had their own PSP-7100 numbers. Thanks to
Robert Lyons for the info.
