PLUTO STUDIOS
RECORDS

Independent label: Pluto Records was a label of Pluto Studios. Pluto was Owned by the former Herman's Hermits guitar player Keith Hopwood and Derek Leckenby. Originally built in 1968 in Stockport as a 2 track facility, it moved to Manchester in 1977, having progressed to a 24 tracks studio. The studio is still operated by Keith Hopwood today but focussing on music for children’s TV. Recordings made at the studio usually ended up on other companies' labels - it was responsible for Brian & Michael's 'Matchstalk Men And Matchstalk Cats And Dogs' and The Clash's 'Bankrobber', at different ends of the popular music spectrum - but at least one EP, Pete Elliott's 'Pete Elliott Sings Skid Row Joe' (PS-001; 10/75) came out on its own label.  Vocals Pete Elliott, lead guitar Peter Cowap, bass Ian Stock, steel guitar Pete Lewis, drums Graham Cunliffe. As can be seen from the scan the EP doesn't have a label name on it as such, but the studio is mentioned on it.  The PS-000 numerical series was used for custom recordings made by the studio, so there may be other PSes out there. Thanks to Robert Lyons For The Info.
