Independent American label: Phil Spector International Records was brought into being to reissue material from Phil Spector's 'Philles' label catalogue, as compiled by Malcolm Jones. It operated from 1975 to 1981 in the USA; in Britain it enjoyed a slightly shorter life. Manufacture was by Polydor over here, distribution by Phonodisc. The labels were injection-moulded, as were those of all Polydor-group singles at that time; they usually came in two different colours, metallic light blue and silver, theough the occasional red label can be found. Phil Spector Real Name: Harvey Philip Spector Born 26 December 1939 in the Bronx, New York. Undoubtedly one of the single most important and influential producers in the history of rock music, Phil Spector's "Wall Of Sound" stands as a milestone in recording history. Spector raised pop production's ambition and production by overdubbing scores of musicians to create a massive roar. It changed the course of pop record producing and produced some of rock's best loved music. Inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 (Non-Performer). Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame 1997. In the 2000s, Spector became the subject of two trials for murder and a second-degree conviction. He is serving a prison sentence of 19 years to life and will be 88 years old before becoming eligible for parole. For shooting and killing his girlfriend actress Lana Clarkson.
