NO RIP OFF
RECORDS
No Rip Off Records was a DIY label from the Punk / New Wave
era. No Rip Off seems to have managed at least two releases; for some
reason there was a four-year gap between them. The first of its
records was the 'Mell Square Musick' EP (YAW-001), Pressed By Lyntone Recordings
Ltd– LYN 6962– LYN 6963, which featured three tracks by Solihull band The
Accused and one each by three other bands: 021, Cracked Actors and The
Undertakers. 1000 copies, most in picture sleeve (there are 2 different rear
sleeve variations). Recorded June 1979. The second was, 'I Lost My Mind', by Eye
Do It (YAW-2; 2/84). YAW-1 came with a (completely) plain white label;
YAW-2 was distributed by The Cartel. The Accused” Were Formed In Late 1978 In
Solihull the Posh End Of Birmingham. The Band Were: Paul Panic Vocals, Martin
Hopeless;Bass, Dave Browne;Guitar, Simon Baker ;Drums. Formed in 1979, 021’s
original line up included the 16 year old Tony Simpson and fifteen year olds
Simon Palmer, Ian Kemp, Mark Thomas and the even younger 14 year old Punk Ian
Richards. Hailing from Shirley and Olton. Thanks to Robert Lyons For
The Info.
