NEW KEY
RECORDS
New Key Records was a Scottish
label. Judging by the few of its products, NKR - New Key Records - seems
to have been either a custom pressing concern or a small independent. Its
7" records were mainly numbered in the NKR-000s, with EPs having an 'EP' after
the 'NKR'. Albums, of which there were at least two, had numbers in an
NKR-900 series. Nat Little's single 'The Ballad Of Glencoe' b/w 'Country
Roads' (S-001) had a matrix number of 'NEW KEY-1' but the only copies that I
have seen have been on the GMC label (q.v.). There was no date on it, or
on Gil Tod & Tiki's 'Cara Mia' b/w 'Heart' (NKR-005), but the first NKR
album, 'Laffin' Room Only' by Hector Nicol (NKR-900) is reported to be from
1976, which gives us some idea of when the label was in operation. Two of
the tracks from an EP by Frankie Farrell, 'I'm Stone In Love With You' and 'Love
Will Keep Us Together' (NKR EP-002) were covers of hits from 1975, which again
suggests a release date of 1976 or thereabouts. The fact that two of the
7" releases were produced by Clem Dane suggests that he may have had something
to do with New Key. Catalogue numbers suggest that there should be at
least two more NKR 7" records out there. Distributed By New Key Records.
