Independent label: MPA appears to have specialized in making DIY records, often (always?) from masters that were recorded elsewhere - as can be seen, the examples shown were recorded in different studios. They include a couple of collectable Punk / Power Pop singles, Northern Lights's 'Bad Girls' (SMP-077) and 'T.V. Movie', by the SlowGuns (SMP-088). All of them came out in 1978-79. The catalogue numbers suggest that there should be more MPA records out there, but as I have yet to find any number under MP-051 it seems probable that numbering started at 051. Singles, EPs and LPs shared the same numerical sequence but had different prefixes:'SMP' for singles, 'EMP' for EPs and 'MP' for LPs. At least three singles with an MPA 'SMP' prefix was issued on the TJM label. MPA records would have been pressed in small quantities, which helps to account for their rarity. The boxed-logo label came in black-on-yellow as well as the colours shown above. Thanks to Sam Mauger for the scan of the light-blue label (2), and to Robert Bowes for that of the cream-coloured one.
