MEGAPHONE
RECORDS
Megaphone Records was a DIY label. It appears to have
issued just the one record, an EP by 'crooner and novelty vocalist' Johnny
M. It was called 'Introducing Johnny M.', and it featured half a dozen
well-known songs from the 1920s and '30s. It had a matrix / catalogue
number of MEG-1, which could be found on the run-off rather than the label, and
was recorded in February 1979 - presumably it was issued not long
afterwards. The backing group included Digby Fairweather and Keith Nichols,
among others, and production was by Kevin Daly, noted for his work for Decca,
Argo, ASV and Conifer. Johnny M. also recorded as a vocalist with the
Midnite Follies Orchestra. Thanks to Robert Bowes for bringing the label
to my attention and for providing the scan. Distributed By Megaphone
Records. Thanks to Robert Lyons For The Info.
