INDUSTRIAL
RECORDS
Independent label: Industrial Records owned and run by the four
members of Throbbing Gristle, a ground-breaking anti-music band from the second
half of the 1970s. Industrial spawned a new kind of 'music', bleak,
dehumanised and automated. The genre was named after the label,
'Industrial Music', and it is still with us today, albeit in several different
forms. The label started life in 1976 and expired in 1981, when Throbbing
Gristle broke up. Most of its releases were cassettes but it managed a few
vinyl LPs and nine singles. The vinyl issues shared the same IR-0000
catalogue numbers. Throbbing Gristle were an English music and visual arts
group that evolved from the performance art group COUM Transmissions. The band
consisted of Neil Megson; bass guitar, violin, vocals, vibraphone), Christine
Newby; guitars, cornet, vocals), Peter Christopherson (tapes, found sounds,
horns, piano, vibraphone, synthesizer) and Chris Carter (synthesizers, tapes,
electronics). Distributed By Rough Trade and Virgin. Thanks to
Robert Lyons For The Info.
