Independent Reggae label: Horse Records was part of the Trojan group. It was intended to be a Pop label, and a number of its early releases were Soul, Funk or Pop but it soon turned to Reggae, albeit often of a commercial, Pop-flavoured sort.  Horse hit the singles charts with Scott English's 'Brandy' (HOSS-7; 1971) and with a couple of singles from Dandy Livingstone, 'Suzanne Beware of the Devil' (HOSS-16; 1972) and 'Big City' (HOSS-25; 1973).  For most of its life the Horse label ca me in shades of brown and orange in 1977 it adopted a somewhat simplified colour scheme and layout.  Horse went where Trojan went: for the first four years of its existence its singles were pressed by EMI and marketed by B&C - demos have the usual EMI-style markings. When B&C folded, Saga took Trojan over and handled manufacture, marketing and distribution itself; after a while Selecta seems to have taken over the distribution side.  Horse issued almost one hundred and sixty singles before it was shelved, in 1978; by that time, CBS had taken over distribution of the label and of its parent.
