Independent label: Handkerchief Records was A subsidiary of Anchor Records. Handkerchief seems to have been aimed firmly at the Pop market, if its roster of artists - including comedian Lenny Henry, showjumper Harvey Smith and spin-offs from a children's TV programme Animal Kwackers - was anything to go by. It also issued singles by proper Pop singers such as Patti Boulaye; but, whether featuring novelties or straight Pop, its records never entered the Top 75. Handkerchief was active from 1975 to 1977, and released more than twenty singles before it folded. As was the case with its parent company. Distribution was by EMI until mid '75, then by CBS Records. Animal Kwackers was a children's television series produced by Yorkshire Television and broadcast on Britain's ITV in the 1970s. The Animal Kwackers were a four piece pop band consisting of Rory, a lion; Twang, a monkey; Bongo, a dog; and Boots, a tiger. The characters were played by actors in costumes. Patti Boulaye (born Patricia Ngozi Ebigwei, 3 May 1954) is a British-Nigerian singer, actress and artist who rose to prominence after winning New Faces in 1978, and was among the leading black British entertainers in the 1970s and 1980s.
