HAMPTON
RECORDS
Hampton released at least one record, a single by a
quaintly named band called Goodwin, Longsmith Esq. The titles on it were a
cover of Elton John's 'Skyline Pigeon' and a (presumably) self-penned song, 'Let
The Sunshine In'. There's no date on the label, but the sides are in
stereo, which stongly suggests the '70s, and the 'B' side features a fairly
basic-sounding synthesizer, reminiscent of that on Chicory Tip's early 1972 hit
'Son Of My Father'; if I was pushed to have a guess at a date I'd say
1973. The catalogue number of the single was GLS-1; There are streets
called Goodwin Court, Longsmith Street and Hampton Court in the GL-1 area of
Gloucester - maybe the band came from there. Thanks to Robert Lyons For
The Info.
