EXPO LEICESTER 72
RECORDS
Expo Leicester 72 Records was a DIY label. It
managed one single. Expo Leicester 72's sole release was an EP of songs
from 'The Great Tent Show', performed by the original cast. The songs all
appear to be about the city of Leicester and its heritage; presumably Expo
Leicester itself was a celebration of that city. The EP's catalogue number
was EXPO-1, and it came in a special sleeve. It issued singles in an TS-000
numerical series. In September 1972 the British Association for the Advancement
of Science held its annual meeting in Leicester. To coincide with this event
many Leicester firms joined together with the local council to arrange a
'five-day pageant' celebrating the city's history and heritage. Expo Leicester
'72 was held in Abbey Park, consisting of exhibitions from local manufacturers
and a host of entertainments, including The Great Tent Show, a musical telling
of the story of Leicester which included ‘The Leicester Song’ celebrating the
city’s industrial success. Thanks to Robert Lyons For The Info.
