BLUDGEON RIFFOLA
RECORDS
Bludgeon
Riffola Records was a DIY label, owned by
Heavy Metal band Def Leppard. Bludgeon Riffola only issued one record in
the 1970s, Leppard's, 'Ride Into The Sun' EP. It seems to have been
released three times on three different-coloured labels and with two different
catalogue numbers. The first batch came out in January 1979 with a red
label and a catalogue number of SRTS/79/CUS-232; there was a re-pressing in May,
which had a yellow label (shown below) and was numbered MSB-001; finally there
came a white-labelled version, which was made available to members of the fan
club when the band signed to Vertigo Records later that year. After the
band found success, in the 1980s, they revived the label as a vehicle for their
own records as part of the Phonogram stable. The label on the EP was plain
in design; pressing was by SRT. Thanks to Robert Lyons
