 An independent label,  A prominent French label.  Founded by producer Eddie Barclay in the late 1950s, Barclay first appeared over here in the early '70s, and it continued to release the occasional single throughout that decade.  It registered in the British charts with singles by Burundi Steiphenson Black and Charles Aznavour.  Its biggest success was Aznavour's, 'She' (BAR-26), which got to No.1 in 1974.  Marketing and distribution were by RCA until 1978; paper labels were the norm but the occasional injection-moulded version slipped out.  In 1978 a move to Logo (marketing) and Selecta (distribution) prompted a change of numbering (from BAR-0 to BAR-700) and of label design. Eddie Barclay sold his company in 1978 to the PolyGram group (now Universal Music) but remained as president and managing director until 1983.
