A division of German media group Bertelsmann. Ariola was founded in 1958; it went on to be one of Germany's most successful record labels. It appeared in the UK in 1977 along with two sister labels, Ariola Hansa and Ariola America. Distribution was by Pye for Ariola and Ariola Hansa, while EMI handled Ariola America. Product seems to have been Europop / Eurodisco sort of stuff; catalogue numbers were in the ARO-100s. Early Ariola singles came in a company sleeve with a chequered design but no identification.
